Hijiki
This is one of Japanese traaditional ingrtedients for Nimono(steamed food)
Hijiki is the name of a kind of seaweed.

I don't think these kind of dishes are not popular in overseas.
How to cook is boil hijiki, sour prum and anything you like(fried tofu added in this case) with soy sauce and Japanese Dashi.
No one say "How delicious it is!" in Japan, but every Japanese knows it and recognize it as traditional foods of Japan.

I havent eaten hijiki...but since it is seaweed it is nutritious,

Are there any popular dish using seaweed in the Philippines? I didn't see any but maid san like seaweed. But still tempura is her favorite :D
Seaweeds are only eaten fresh as complimentary medicine for people who have goiters. It is believed to be rich in iodine especially the sea grapes.

My uncle used to eat seagrapes with vinegar only.

I think English teachers don't teach what "sea grapes" means in Japanese in our class in Japan :p
oh, yes. sea-grapes is poplar in Okinawa. It is so called umi-budou. It is exactly same meaning as sea grapes. Interesting !

According to Eijiro, it tells me sea grape means "ハマベブドウ、イカの卵嚢、ホンダワラ". I was a little bit confused :(
